E'n'R: Emilia Romagna Vibes
A project collecting under one banner artists and record labels that have helped create what might be recognised as Emilia Romagna's original "electronic dance music" sound. Having already successfully organised a similar venture for their region, Piemonte Grooves (www.piemontegroove.it) has been invited to contribute ideas and strategies for the Emilia Romagna project.

Emilia Romagna's unique take on dance music (which we represent using abbreviating the name of the region: E'n'R), will be presented in its historical context: from the Afro explosion and the birth of the first Italian Hip Hop bands in the 70s, the incredible diffusion of house and techno in the 80s and 90s, right up to current styles such as IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), new electronica and drum'n'bass.

Representatives from the regions of Emilia Romagna and Piedmont (who will appear in their capacity of Piemonte Groove organisers) accompanied by key figures from various musical periods will all contribute to discussions on the history and style of dance music in the region. Audio and visual records of the various periods will alternate with the discussions.

The meeting will also play host to Liqiud, a group from London who will present the results of their research into the phenomenon of Afro music in Italy (which began in Emilia Romagna). They will be accompanied by Bill Brewster, UK author of the celebrated book "Last Night a Dj saved my Life", who will introduce his new book and discuss the research. The writer will be supported by the journalist-writers Lucio Mazzi, Carlo Antonelli and Fabio de Luca - the latter co-authors of two books on Italian dance music, "Disco Story" and "Disco inferno", and recently, by Fabio de Luca only, "Mum, Mum I want to be a dj" ("Mamma mamma voglio fare il dj "), published by Arcana edizioni.

The E'n'R "best of" night will take place on the evening of Friday 23 April in the following venues: Link, Covo and Estragon, where participating djs and musicians will perform. At the beginning of the night there will be a projection of the film "The Maestro, the documentary", both an emotional record of the original US house music scene and an informative journey though a form of dance music that has influenced club culture across the globe, focussing on the development of dance music in New York from the 60s to the 80s. It documents the birth of the phenomenon in clubs like the Loft, the Gallery and the Sanctuary, and interviews a selection of the founding fathers who made it all happen: Larry Levan (who gets particular attention in the film), David Mancuso, Nicky Siano, Francis Grasso, Frankie Knuckles etc...
